You want to have kids? How selfish!

10/27/2012
Why is it that you hear people say "I want kids" by far more than you ever hear people contemplate if they would be good parents? Creating human life should not be taken so lightly. Having children for the primary reason of fulfilling your own desires of wanting kids seems to suggest that you are putting your own desires first. Those same parents will probably think about how much they sacrifice for their kids. To consider what do for your children to be a sacrifice is absurdity! Having children is your decision. The responsibility you take on because of your own decisions is not a sacrifice! After all, it is what you decided to do.

Stop thinking about simply wanting kids and how happy it will make you. Start thinking about how happy and fulfilling your children's lives will be.

My Presidential Vote is Worth More Than Yours

10/19/2012

I may not be able to quantify the value of someone's presidential vote, but it would seem clear that there is a difference in the value among votes. Your vote for president may have almost no chance of swaying the election and my vote may have a much greater chance. How can this be? If you live in a state where people statistically vote for a republican president most of the time, your vote has very little significance if you are a democrat. You can still vote, but statistically your vote will likely be thrown away as soon as the opposing party "wins" your state's electoral college vote. As we saw with the election of George W. Bush there were fewer votes for him than for Al Gore. Clearly, each vote for Bush was worth more. Each person who voted for Bush got more say in the election. The system is flawed; shouldn't it be fixed?
